Casino admissions jumped sharply in normally sluggish January, up 6.3 percent over the same month a year ago, while the market’ four casinos raked in a combined $62.1 million for their fifth richest month ever.

Why the increase?  Iowa and Illinois did not do well in January.  Illinois is facing a smoking ban.  The increase is believed to be because Missouri lifted it’s $500 loss limit.

Statewide, gaming revenues were up a whopping 10 percent over January 2007, to $145.7 million.
