even when we least expect it!
Our house is about 45 years old. (These days 45 doesn’t sound old at all.) We have three oak trees that are probably at least as old as the house. One is right smack in the middle of the back yard, another right in the middle of the front yard, and the third right in between our driveway and the next door neighbor’s driveway. As you can imagine, the trees are quite large and provide our house with full shade all day long during the summer. We enjoy their benefits.
The last few weeks I have looked at the two trees in front thinking that they desperately needed trimming. The tree in back gets trimmed every other year by the electric company since there are power lines in the back. We have several limbs hanging low over the driveway and the front yard. My main concern is the ones hanging over the driveway.
We had a mild ice storm a few years ago which left a few limbs hanging down right in front of our van. We debated whether to leave it in the driveway and risk a limb falling on it or park it in the street and risk it getting hit by a car. We decided to leave it in the driveway. The storm wasn’t severe and didn’t last long, so it wasn’t long before the ice was melting and the limbs returned to their normal position.
As I said before, I’ve spent the last couple of weeks looking at the trees thinking that they needed to be trimmed. However, I hadn’t said anything to anyone–not the kids, not my husband, not the dog.
At about 10:00 this morning, my husband told me that our neighbor around the corner had come over. He had offered to trim our trees if we wanted it done. Naturally, we didn’t refuse this offer.
We only got about half of it done because we need a new blade for the chain saw and the store was sold out. However, we got done most of what would be damaging to the cars if there was a storm. It looks a lot better, and we got some great firewood out of the deal too! The rest will have to be done another day.
