John McCain’s reaction to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2nd Amendment:
Unlike the elitist view that believes Americans cling to guns out of bitterness, today’s ruling recognizes that gun ownership is a fundamental right — sacred, just as the right to free speech and assembly.
Obama’s reaction to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2nd Amendment:
I have always believed that the Second Amendment protects the right of individuals to bear arms, but I also identify with the need for crime-ravaged communities to save their children from the violence that plagues our streets through common-sense, effective safety measures.
Common-sense safety measures would be allowing law-abiding citizens the ability to arm themselves against criminals. Anti-gun laws only effect the law-abiding citizens. Obviously, criminals don’t care about the law. If you’re about to commit a burglary or a murder, what’s a weapons charge on top of that? Outlawing guns is not going to get illegal guns off the streets.
The best way to save children “from the violence that plagues our streets” is to lock up the criminals and throw away the key. None of this junk of letting them out in a few months so they can go out and commit more crimes.
We constantly hear how our prisons are overcrowded. So what. If we really need more prisons, then let’s put the prisoners to work building new ones.
