There’s a new blog in town that looks like it will be helpful to genealogists. HistoricalTownMaps is all about location based genealogy.

My goal for this blog is to provide valuable information, insight, tips, and techniques for those of you who are researching and documenting your family tree.

“Walking in the Land of my Ancestors” encourages researchers to look deeper when they find their ancestor’s name on a map by trying to answer such questions as:

  1. How did this person acquire this property . . .?
  2. What did they do with the property . . .?
  3. Who did the person transfer the land to upon leaving the area or upon death?

See the article to learn where to find these maps, how to use them, what other information they may lead to, etc.
