Britney Spears’ younger sister has proudly announced to the world that she is pregnant. Every report I’ve seen says she is 16. However, her website has her birth date as April 1992, which would make her 15. So, why the big lie about her age? Does it sound “better” to be knocked up at 16? Is there a statutory rape law in Louisiana that her boyfriend is trying to avoid? Reportedly, she has been dating her boyfriend who is 19 for 2 1/2 years. Let’s see, 15 1/2 minus 2 1/2 equals 13. Jamie’s mother, whose book on parenting has indefinitely been put on hold, has allowed her daughter to date since she was 13. Yikes! Possible book title: How to Turn Innocent Children into Tramps.

Jamie Lynn is quoted as saying, “It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected.” Has she not been told about the birds and the bees?

When it came to telling her parents about her pregnancy, Jamie Lynn says she was “scared.” Long gone are the days that an unwed mother would be whisked off on an extended vacation or boarding school (aka home for unwed mothers) to have her baby. Long gone are the days that anyone is shameful of their sin. Rushed in are the days of pride and wickedness.

Unfortunately, the one that will suffer the most is Jamie Lynn’s baby. Jamie Lynn is still a child herself. She lacks the maturity and wisdom to raise a child, and she will not have the wisdom needed until she humbles herself before the Lord.

When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom. (Proverbs 11:2)

Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Assuredly, he will not be unpunished. (Proverbs 16:5)

The LORD will tear down the house of the proud (Proverbs 15:25a)

A man’s pride will bring him low, But a humble spirit will obtain honor. (Proverbs 29:23)

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. (I John 2:16)

This young girl and her unborn child need our prayers more than anything.
